Indian online cockfighting follows the Filipino Sabong format. The match takes place in a circular or rectangular arena, where the rooster’s left leg is equipped with a sharp blade to increase lethality. Roosters fight using their claws, beaks, and leg blades until one is no longer able to fight.
Before the match, the referee checks the roosters’ weight, height, and wing span for fairness. The leg blade (Tari, about 3 inches) and leg bands are also inspected for compliance. If the roosters are similar in appearance, their leg bands (blue and red) distinguish them.
The roosters are then warmed up with a beak-to-beak test (Bill-Facing) to stimulate their fighting instincts.
When the match starts, the referee removes the blade’s protective cover and wipes it with alcohol to prevent the application of poison.
The cockfighting battle lasts for 10 minutes, with the winner determined when one of the gamefowls dies, flees, or loses its ability to fight.
- One rooster dies → The surviving rooster wins.
- One rooster flees → The fleeing rooster loses.
- One rooster can’t fight (cannot stand up) → The referee will hold both roosters and allow the dominant rooster to peck the other in a “Victory Peck” (two pecks). If the opponent does not retaliate, the referee will raise the victorious rooster and declare it the winner.
- If no winner is determined after 10 minutes, the match is declared a tie.
